Ah, Smarthphones; the marvel of the 21st century that transformed your once-slim mobile phone into the now ubiquitous block of unnecessary technology (Finally, my phone is now able to make my calls and level my shelves!). Today, Palm (remember them?) and Sprint Nextel announced the price and availability of their highly-anticipated Palm Pre, a Web OS-based smartphone which will retail for $199.99 (with a two-year contract and a $100 mail-in rebate of course). Palm’s latest device will be available online, at Sprint Nextel stores, Radioshack, BestBuy and select Wal-mart retailers. The June 6th release date is strategically two days before a suspected announcement of Apple’s iphone 3.0 at their Worldwide Developer’s Conference. Now if Palm has figured out how to block spam text messages and drunk dials, then I’ll be the first in line.
